I made a throwaway because I don't want this to be linked to other silly nerd things I follow here :)
I have to thank this subreddit and everyone here on the community for changing my life. I sit here today a completely changed and better person than I was when I discovered this subreddit years ago.
About Me I'm a mid-thirties start-up/tech employee who's struggled with ADD, Depression, Anxiety, Stress (im in sales) and low motivation.I've tried nearly everything you can think of to relieve those things legal and illegal. I'm including only a review of what worked for me and I'll answer any questions anyone has but this is mostly just a recommendation and a HUGE thank you to this community.
First off, I think most important is diet/exercise/mindfulness. Honestly address these issues before you do anything. It's a no brainer. But you didn't come here for that so:
Daytime
Coffee with L-Thenaine & Cacao Holy shit thank you to this community so much for showing me the wonder that is L-Theanine. .
I used to have a serious coffee/energy drink addiction. There were even days I'd have TWO 5-hour energy drinks, a redbull, a coffee and a preworkout. I had eye twitching, anxiety, sleep problems and everything you'd think with that combo.
Now I have two cups of coffee with, 250mg of ltheanine ( i bought through bulk supplements) and a bit of cacao. the cacao is good for antioxidants and serotonin/dopamine boost. Plus it tastes great! Make sure it's non-alkalized and 100% pure. I use non-gmo but w/e.
Probiotics
This one is huge. I read Dave Aspreys book and if you can get over it being a giant infomercial for his products, he has some great insights about the gut. If you haven't looked into the brain/gut connection yet I HIGHLY encourage you to. I use these ones off a recommendation I found from someone posting on here a while ago and I'll share with you: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004SGO4DG/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Whenever I hear someone complain about brain fog this is almost always my first thought. Your brain spends so much energy running the complex machine that is your gut. Think of this as a motor oil that makes everything run smoother and thus less taxing on your brain. Probiotics are the thing lots of hear about and brush off. DON'T. I'm betting this could solve the majority of problems on this subreddit.
My post workout is pretty basic bro but I'll include anyway: • protein shake with collagen (not bulletproof)- great for joints, hair and skin. I noticed an immediate difference. •krill oil •creatine chews •multivitamin •glucosamine
Bedtime :
I made my own bedtime cocktail using the following:
• Doc Parsley’s Sleep Remedy - Google it but it's basically Magnesium and Vit D with some melatonin,ph-GABA, Tryptophan and 5-Htp
I mix that with
• Apple Cider Vinegar & Yogi Bedtime Tea
This is a combo I got from two separate Tim Ferriss recommendations that works well for me.
In ~40 min I'm out like a light and I can actually STAY asleep! THis has been huge for me as sleep has always been an issue.I get around 7-8 hours now all the time.
That's it! After testing things I didn't like these are the simple (low risk) things that I think everyone here should consider trying. YMMV but let me know what you think!
Bonus
meditation just start. It's so easy once you build the habit and the rewards are exponential. Start using headspace/calm. I use my apple watch 'breathe' app and count in 1, out 2, to 10 and repeat. I usually will listen to ambient music song on repeat. IT helps.
TL,DR: These things changed my life and I couldn't have done it without you guys. Thank you so much to everyone in this community. I stand before you today a calmer, more productive happier version of myself.
