First time smoking DMT (+ 100ug LSD)
This story is of my first time trying DMT. The story begins with my and my friend/trip partner (we’ll call him T again) on the day that the 2 of us thought we were finally going to get ahold of DMT. T at this point had already had a couple DMT experiences further in his past, but I had still never been able to try the mystical stuff, despite my extensive experience with most other major psychedelics and my desire to do DMT. However, to both of our dismay, the DMT we were supposed to get that day fell through at the last second, leaving the 2 of us frustratingly sober. T, as a last resort, says that he has an old friend (We’ll call him L) who often has DMT on hand who might be willing to give us a sample trip the same day. After several hours, we get ahold of L and get this guy to agree to come over after he gets off work and smoke us out on DMT in exchange for some beer or weed or something.
Now, as a rather seasoned user of hallucinogens, I had always been planning to take a very high dose my first time smoking DMT, as I’ve found that I enjoy first time experiences if I go at it with a rather Terence McKenna-esque mindset. However, L didn’t know this about me, and seemed like he was appropriately wary about giving a new user a heroic dose of dmitri for his first go. T confirmed that it was likely that L wouldn’t give me as much as I had been hoping for my first trip, for which I was determined to have a breakthrough. I considered this, and decided that the best course of action was to take a tab a few hours before L got off work so that I wouldn’t need quite as much DMT to have a breakthrough-esque experience. T agreed that this was a good idea.
L was getting off work at 10PM, so I took the tab at around 7. These were excellent tabs, so I was already noticeably tripping by about 8:30 despite having a bit of a tolerance left over from tripping the week before. We met up with L and his girlfriend and drove back to my house to trip. L was a bit of a strange character; he was ever so slightly ‘off’, apparently from overuse of psychedelics. This was further exacerbated by the fact that he was hard of hearing and had incidentally lost his hearing aid recently. This culminated in him being a somewhat difficult to talk to person. I’m pretty sure that he didn’t realize that I was on acid the entire time until well after we had smoked the DMT.
Either way (somewhat surprisingly) the low dose LSD euphoria helped relax me and get me amped up for the DMT trip. Right before the trip I was much less nervous than I would have expected, I think because I was already in the psychedelic state, and I wasn’t really registering the DMT trip ahead of me as anything scarier than just being pushed further into the blissful state I was already in. L packs an oil burner full of 30-40mg or so of DMT and begins lighting it, placing it in front of my face. As it begins to vaporize, I start inhaling very slowly. I managed to get an enormous hit on the first try, and was able to feel it setting in before I had even finished inhaling.
Within seconds of taking the hit, an incredibly powerful and euphoric body high washed all throughout my being. I remember just how right it felt, and thought to myself something along the lines of “oh yes please good”. The minor visuals I had been getting already from the peak of the LSD exploded out in complexity and detail. Every single object in my field of view fractaled inwards on itself so that it looked like everything was somehow made up of a gridded pattern of the object itself… It’s hard to explain exactly because it’s an effect that defies visual logic to the sober mind (to do so is an ability DMT visuals have that fascinates me). The closest comparison I can make would be to either this or this.
I held it in as long as I could, but I was quickly pulled away pretty hard into the trip. I closed my eyes and exhaled, and was immediately engulfed in this undefinable, sense-defying feeling/experience. There was some visual component to it, but it was just that, a single component of a more all-encompasing feeling. The visual aspect presented itself as this array of neon, glowing streams of light progressing down in front of and through me along the outlines of some sort of entity or spirit that was not only presenting itself to me, but was somehow a part of me in and of itself. This whole part of the trip was pretty beyond words in some fundamental way that I can’t quite put my finger on. Either way, the main take-homes were a perceived contact with some sort of intangible entity and a remarkable wash of euphoria throughout every sense to welcome me into the trip.
I’m not sure how long I was in this state/place (probably only a few seconds), but the next thing I remember was that L was putting the pipe back up to my lips and beginning to light it again. I somehow opened my eyes briefly to take the hit, still tripping absolute tits. Around the second hit is where someone else started to play the song Homage Sliders from Tipper’s album Forward Escape (one of the best works of psychedelic music ever IMO) and the music immediately took control over the visuals.
As soon as I had exhaled and closed my eyes again, I was quite quickly presented with a blindly bright array of beautiful geometry. Unlike other experiences I’ve had, the colors were all saturated to the point of looking neon and vivid beyond belief. By this point the familiar black background of the back of my eyelids was gone, as every inch of my visual field was covered by bright geometric shapes. The geometry also took on a remarkable structure and regularity; it wasn’t nearly as amorphous or random as I have been used to with other psychedelic experiences and combinations. Everything was symmetrical and beautifully aesthetic in nature. The shapes all shifted in color and zipped about me as I slowly glided forwards through the space, everything moving in time with the music. Neon yellow and blue striped beams flowed and stretched all about me, drawing angled, symmetrical images with their outlines. Every once in a while, the geometry spun and shifted itself to form these almost escher-esque impossible shapes. It seemed like I was seeing non-euclidean, illogical geometry that I shouldn’t be able to see, though I witnessed it as effortlessly and casually as if it were just a square or other normal shape. It seemed vaguely like I was supposed to glean some sort of information or enlightenment from these patterns, but as usual it was all happening so quickly that it was difficult to make any sort of sober sense of the experience until it was over.
The trip lasted slightly longer than the song, though it was hard to tell exactly by how long. The colors slowly started to subside and I began to regain a sense of my physical presence as I slowly opened my eyes. I was still tripping absolute balls, but I found I had to contain myself as T was eyes closed mid-trip and I didn’t want to disturb him. I took the next few minutes to regain my composure, though I found that because of the LSD, the trip didn't seem to fade completely, I just came down back into a slightly different psychedelic state. The DMT did however seem to leave a lasting and very pleasant effect on the rest of the LSD trip.
Because the DMT and LSD had seemed to synergise so well, I decided to take 2 more gel tabs, each dosed at 250ug, bringing my total to ~600ug. T and L both left shortly after, leaving to trip all by myself through the rest of the night, still basking in the afterglow that the DMT had left. That trip remains one of the most beautiful and all-encompassing LSD trips I have ever had. In the morning, while still tripping balls, I called L again and he came over to smoke me out on DMT once again, which once again led to a similarly mind blowing experience.
Overall 10/10, would do again (and planning to soon)
