Hi guys,
First of all: I’m still coming down a bit so maybe this might not make complete sense. I’m going to try to write this in a way that people who are interested but haven’t tried DMT yet can understand and perhaps imagine it a bit as well. Most of the time trip reports tend to be super interprative/subjective/metaphorical, I’ll try to avoid this. Also important: This was my 4th time doing DMT, but I’m fairly certain I still haven’t had a breakthrough. I’m guessing I’ll know when it happens (but I’m not angry if it doesn’t).
This was very similar to my other trips. I’ll try to list what I experienced (and thus experience in general when doing deebs):
It comes on quick, sound gets distorted into a choppy 8 bit-y kind of experience. Almost like the scene in The Matrix where Neo takes the red pill and touches the mirror, his voice gets digitally distorted.
The outlines of the stuff in my room are still there, but its “contents” are unrecognisable and constantly shifting and changing. Somehow, the room feels very simulated. Sometimes, like this time, a giant mandela appears on top of my field of vision, almost like a camera filter on a smartphone. There’s a kind of white noise-ish sound in my ears, which grows in volume. Eventually it almost feels like a physical pressure and overwhelmes my hearing. It sounds unpleasant but is actually very cool and meditative.
Sense of time, location and self gets TOTALLY garbled. It feels like I’m timetravelling a couple of minutes forward and backward in time. My mind forgets I just inhaled a load of DMT and I remember thinking “wow this is crazy this reminds me of tripping on deebs”, which triggers my mind to “remember” at least that I was preparing to smoke DMT, which then in turn triggers me remembering I’m currently on DMT, which triggers me thinking I’m already done tripping... It’s very, very hard to explain, but at the time it honestly feels a bit like timetravelling. In reality I think my mind is just getting acclimatised to the new substance in my body, and that first minute it just doesn’t seem able to coherently process thought anymore. At this point it’s hard to pin point exactly where I am. I know deep down I’m in a safe, familiar location, but the part of my mind that links what I see (remember, I’m still seeing my room and the outlines in it) to what I know (i.e. what my room looks like) seems to have taken a quick break. The open eye visuals get intenser and more chaotic until my eyelids start flickering and I feel the need to close them.
I close my eyes. Immediatly highly intricate and colourful visions fill my field of view. As anyone who’s tried DMT before knows: to describe their shape and geomotry would be impossible. Hyperdimensional seems to be the best way to describe it, yet somehow also the worst. Suffice to say: Never in your wildest imagination will you be able to conjur up “objects” like this. They are truly out of this world. But after doing DMT a couple of times I am starting to notice things that recur/are mostly the same every time: • The colours are always bright and neon, mostly neon green and neon orange. Sometimes the colour is undescribable, yet still grounded in this neon brightness. • The background (when the visions aren’t taking up my whole field of view) is always pitch black • The shapes/visions are always very sharp and clearly defined, there is no blurriness, only absolute clarity of these strange visions/objects. Some people use the term “realer than real”. It is definitely not something you’d expect of closed eye visuals. I imagine this is the clarity a 32k tv will have in ten years. • The visions are CONSTANTLY morphing into something else. It’s a very chaotic environment yet I never feel any anxiety. This is one of the reasons it’s impossible for me to remember more than a couple of seconds of the experience. The shapeshifting is happening so fast, each vision more colourful and intricate than the last. I feel like the mind is not capable of holding such a quantity of information flowing over you in such a short span of time. •Despite being ever-changing, for me at least the visions seem to all have a common style/theme to them. Somehow it is vaguely connected to maya/inca/aztek art.
At this point my conscious mind is fighting a battle to stay on top of this experience. Again, there’s no fear or anxiety, my consciousness just seems to randomly put thoughts in my head. “Oh I should tell X about this” or “man I totally forgot what this was like” (tbh I feel like remembering a dmt trip is impossible so every time I try it I’m like OH YEAH OF COURSE THIS IS WHAT IT’S LIKE, like somewhere far back in my sober mind there’s a memory of what this place looks like but I can’t for the love of me 100% accurately recall it when sober). I know these thoughts are obstructing my breakthrough, and the DMT knows it too. It subtely interweaves visions of people (sometimes a woman, sometimes a stylized mayan head thingy) pressing their finger against their lips and making a sssjjj gesture, as to quiet my conscious mind. So far it hasn’t helped though. (I’ll try 50mg next time, maybe that’s enough to quiet my mind down and let me go deeper.)
This is the peak of the experience, probably around 4-5 minutes in now. Ever so slowly the effects start to lighten, and at a certain point I become aware that my eyes don’t feel that heavy anymore and are trying to open themselves. At this point I can choose to keep them closed, but I rarely do. I know at this point that I will only get lesser versions of the visuals I had at the peak, and it honestly feels like, for lack of a better metaphore, a cassette playing a great song but then the batteries of your walkmen run out of juice so the song starts slowing down.. It’s the same song, just crappier. I mostly prefer to open my eyes at this point.
I open my eyes. It’s immediatly apparent I’m still tripping le balls. Everything in my room is still distorted. Visuals at this point are comparable to a very heavy dose of shrooms. Breathing walls, animated posters and pictures, changing text on them, etc etc. Often there seems to be a sort of substance all around me. I can’t exactly touch it but I can see it clearly, almost like a mesh of energy that’s flowing through my whole room. It’s all very enjoyable but does resemble shrooms a lot, which I’m semi used to, so nothing mindblowing anymore.
At this point consciousness has more or less returned, probably around the 8 minute mark now. Now, and I heavily recommend this when you’re post-peak DMT tripping, I turn off the lights, yet I made sure beforehand that there are a couple of very dim, small lightsources in my room. For instance, my pc screen has a small orange coloured light when in stand by. I also use an older Apple Airport device which has a small green led. It’s very strange to see what happends to those little sources of light in the dark, especially while feeling semi sober and quite conscious already at this point. The lights seem to move around the room, and double or triple themselves, or change colour, or start blinking in and out of existense. Meanwhile there are still some trippy visuals unfolding themselves around me (though nothing compared to the closed eye peak trip visuals). Somehow it really makes me ponder the nature of reality and the simulation theory.
After a while I turn the lights back on and just enjoy the now less intense shroomy visuals slowly fade out.
