Ok, here goes. I've struggled with ADHD symptoms all my life but didn't know they were ADHD symptoms. The teachers told my parents that I was most likely the smartest kid in class but lazy and not interested. It's the classic story, really. I was about average, dropped out of college and started a business.
I was very successful from a financial point of view but the struggle continued behind the scenes. I was 29 but it felt like 69, working 7 days a week, had tax problems, a pile of unpaid bills but loads of cash in the bank, trouble with deadlines in general and my office looked like the drop off area in a paper recycling factory.
Then I met a girl and we hit it off. She's a doctor and it took her about three days to figure out what was most likely wrong with me. I got diagnosed with ADHD a couple of weeks later. Here's what made all the difference for me:
Methylphenidate. It isn't the wonder drug that many think it is. At least not for me. But it does help me to slow down and focus. I take 30mg ER in the morning.
I got my blood checked and was deficient in just about every single micronutrient. That's what happens to you with a brain at 7.000 rpm that needs unbelievable amounts of energy. Being a doctor and knowing how impatient I am, my gf decided to skip oral treatment and went straight to IV which is a wonderful thing. It's not even that expensive, you can customize it and my kitchen counter doesn't look like a pharmacy. I get two infusions per week and my blood is checked once every three months. It's probably the best money I spend.
A morning routine: healthy breakfast, 30 minutes of cardio and a cold shower.
Fish oil: 430 mg DHA, 600 mg EPA per day
Ginkgo biloba: 240 mg EGb 761 (make sure it's pharmaceutical grade)
And that's it. It's a difference that's hard to describe. I get more work done in about half the time, my office makes die hard bean counters jealous, I can relax after work, have time to cook, go out with friends and on and on.
I've been experimenting with micronutrients and nootropics all my life because I probably knew there was something wrong in the back of my head. But I never got up to see a doctor. I think many people on here are in the same boat which isn't a good place to be. See a doctor if you think there might be something wrong with you and remember that you don't need to boost anything above normal levels because "normal" is fucking awesome already.
