This is a trip report (my first one actually) for 4-ETHYLPENTEDRONE (NOT -METHYL), aka 4EPD, aka 4-EPD.
IUPAC: 4-ethyl-α-methylamino-valerophenone
As of writing this report, neither wikipedia nor psychonautwiki have a page for this compound, but it does show up on psychonauts substituted cathinone list. Tripsit has a page, but no dose guide. Hopefully this report will serve to help start the gathering of info on 4-EPD.
Having researched 4-methylpentedrone more than a few times, I would say these are quite different chems. I think I could pick them out in a blind taste, I mean sniff test.
Some Results for this 50mg of 4-EPD Insufflation Experiment
- focus enhancement: Very apparent, very controllable, huge plus. Possibly the only reason I'd ever research it again.
- Wakefullness: Quite possibly the least wakeful-promoting cathinone I have yet tried.
- Redose compulsion: negligent - I was surprised.
- Pupil dilation: noticeable but not ridiculous like a proper dose of MDMA or IPH for example.
- Vasoconstriction: very light for the level of stimulation/focus experienced IMO, compared to hexen (again IMO very constricting). Seemed to actually get worse towards the second hour. My thoughts are that the metabolites are more vasoconstricting.
- Resting heart rate at 42 minutes: 95bpm, at 108 minutes: 82bpm.
- Standing heart rate at 120 minutes: 91bpm
- anxiety: I was alone so this is hard to measure but generally did not notice a huge anxiety component. Worth noting I was very jumpy around small noises like my phone beeping or soda can popping back into shape. So potentially really anxiogenic in more public setting.
- Music enhancement/enjoyment: Ooooo yeah baby. Even on the comedown I was jammin. Couldn't concentrate while listening though. I think focus on music sometimes IS part of how you enjoy it, and I don't multitask - at all.
- melting point: TBD
- Boiling point: TBD - I'm not into this but it would be good info to have for testing between batches and purity.
- solubility in water: TBD but very soluble
- reagent test results: TBD, yeah that's right bitches I'm wild and dangerous, look at me. Probably got cancer tho for real.
Some loosely conclusive points on this chem from this experiment: I wrote these at the end of my report but am placing them at the top for anyone looking for a brief summary or overview of my findings.
- NO DISTINCT SEROTONIN ACTION Or at least, no noticeable euphoria. You might think the 4-ethyl group would do something of that nature, but it did not in this experiment (worth noting here that 4-methylpentedrone also doesn't have those characteristics, at least not for me and the other's I've read posts from).
- The most distinct and noteable effect was focus enhancement I did nothing but sit here and write this from start to finish, which was NOT my original plan. I wanted to look into my summer vacation but I just got SO INTO WRITING THIS!
- I did NOT have a strong impulse to redose - and I normally do with almost everything - even Tim-Tam's (australian biscuit - if you haven't tried one - go find a way to buy the authentic brown package Australian produced ones, put them in the fridge or freezer, and then tell me Australia doesn't have the best fucking cookie/biscuit on the planet)
- Fuck me I'm getting off topic - not supporting my statements about focus enhancement but I'm writing this bulleted conclusion list at t=+87 and I'm definitely on the down side of this
- on that note - This chem feels, and very well could be,shorter acting in comparison to 4-MPD and pentedrone, etc.
- It does NOT promote much wakefullness. I'm only still awake because the focus and dedication aspect of this chem is driving me to get all my thoughts down. Could fall asleep quite fast if I needed to though.
Year retrieved: 2018
Appearance: White fine crystals
Day 0: Granular allergy Test
Day 2: milligram level Allergy Test, lingual. Stung a little on the tongue. Tastes like 4-methylpentedrone.
Day 5: actually tried some this day, reagent kit still hasn't arrived and I trust this vendor so lets do this.
Related information: moderate cathinone tolerance, ~100mg Hexen or 150-200 NEP per day for the past few weeks. Also have been dosing pretty high on the O-DSMT recently, which does have some NDRI or NDRA character. I personally feel experienced enough to tell the difference however and will exclusively dose this chem for the duration of the report.
t=0 5mg insufflated to see how caustic it is on the nose, not bad
t=+1 10mg insufflated (so total starting dose is 15mg)
t=+5 decided to write a trip report since I couldn't find shit on this RC anywhere and I've never done a report before. Felt like trying something new so this is new in the sense of a new chem and a new experience reporting. I'm writing this sentence as I finish up this trip report - I wrote a lotta shit in here - and I'm not an interesting storyteller - so JUST READ THE THINGS IN BOLD
t=+16 definitely stimulated, I mean I'm about as talkative over this keyboard as I would be in person right now if there were people with me. Plan to redose soon, as it is later in the evening and I want to get a few more things done.
t=+23 35mg insufflated, lets see what I can get out of what may be a more reasonable dose for me.
t=+24 Some things worth noting: nasal drip isn't foul as it is with Hexen for example. Really no terrible burning from insufflation.
t=+26 Noticing some chest tightness which is odd. Usually with cathinone use I notice the 'hard' heart beat, or the fast heart rate. Mild vasoconstriction, as to be expected. mg for mg, not as bad constriction as hexen for example, I think I'd say on par with NEP.
t=+30 Safe to say time is moving by very slow. The focus with this chem is fairly good. We'll see if a higher dose makes me more ADHD but I'm very committed to writing this at the moment.
t=+31 This compound is, of course, certainly stimulating (I'm coming back at t=+74 to write here that at no point did I feel over-stimulated - a feeling I have experienced many times with many chems) It is not, however, noteably potent or overstimulating. I currently feel as if I could still lye down and rest if I chose to. My obsessively tapping foot would disagree but my eyes are beginning to close easily and it's just barely getting around to my normal bed time. (Normal... haha, I don't have a fucking normal sleep schedule. Who am I kidding?).
t=+34 Maybe need to take my word back a tad on the nasal drip - now that my total dose rests at 50mg, I've got that nasty 'back of the mouth' gag feeling. I'm going to eat something. to ease that off (post trip report note: it worked - no more gag feeling after eating). Worth mentioning now that I'm pretty god damn dehydrated and this chem has given me MAD dry mouth and sever mouth breathing effects, which I find isn't always the case with cathinones.
t=+38 Holy hell I am writing a lot - I don't feel eurphorically stimulated but I mean the evidence sure makes me look like it. I'm going to start bolding everything I think is an important comment but leave all this text here to show 4-ethylpentedrone has a pretty strong focus/reinforcement/whatever you call this- effect. Eating helped by the way - nasal drip very bearable - and I usually don't bear those well.
t=+42 Chest tightness still present, but not unbearable, just a distinct feeling from other similar chems. I just checked my heart rate.My current average resting heart rate is 95bpm, which is surprisingly low considering the time since ingestion and mg amount dosed. For reference, my first few times trying hexen (or what I HOPE and BELIEVE was hexen, put my resting heart rate at 110 or above within minutes of insufflation of 20-30mg).
t=+46 I'm realizing I'm essentially writing non stop and my focus is pretty god damn spot on for being on a cathinone late at night. It feels nothing like the laser focus and excitement/dopamergic/euphoric focus you'd get with adderall or similar, but still, I think that may be the potential use for this particular rc.
t=+48 Going to post this now in case my PC crashes or something - I don't want to lose all this.
t=+53 I'm thankfully finding it easy to eat, again a unique component to this chem I would count as a positive. Ensuring regular meals is like step 1 to mitigating crashes and what-not.
t=+55 I'm going to restate because I find this so interesting and again unique: time seems to be going by SO SO slowly. Usually when I'm fucking around on reddit at this time of night, every time I look at the clock it's 70 minutes later. With this, it's like, 'holy fuck, what? It's only been 1 minute since I wrote that last thing?' I kind of like that aspect of this - I hate when time flies by me. I probably won't make it very long in this world given my other health conditions, so I like to do the whole carpe diem thingy, but without the jumping on desks part and more the trying random powders from anonymous chemists in another country that you paid with 1's and 0's. Ooo look, another important noteI'm appreciating things fairly well. I also just noticed I haven't bolded much. I just want to keep writing, don't want to look back.
t=+60 (1 hour in) I'll write a summary here because I don't think it's currently worth dosing more for me at this time. I also only have another 50mg as this was a sample.
t=+63 It may be partially because of the small amount of food I just ate and the time of day, but I'm quite tired. If I closed my eyes and tried, I could certainly fall asleep face first into my bowl of asian food.
t=+65 Fuck now I'm really tired. May have to end this report soon. Will do a few more tests: pupil dilation check, heart rate, I'll try to pee, fuck why haven't I listened or played music?! ... what else, idk. I don't want to look up other reports for examples, I just want to keep typing.
t=+67 Oh! A worthy note: while 4-ethylpentedrone isn't particularly anxiogenic, I've noticed I respond sharply to sharp noises. Like I'm jumpy at my soda can popping back into shape. I could go without that effect - not a good thing to have if I took this in public - would probably look pretty tweaky.
t=+70 Brain power is definitely fading - but again, I did eat in the midst of this and it is late. Even still, this doesn't seem to be a long lasting stimulant. I'm sure the peripheral effects on my heart and such will be - as per the expected psuedophedrine-like metabolites, but something makes this chem easier to break down and cuts the half life compared to 4-MPD and NEP (also apologies but I've never had the chance to try straight pentedrone).
t=+94 I'm so mad I forgot to add enough enter spacings to make the format appear correctly on reddit. I'm so ashamed. Was planning on wrapping this up and now my finished product looks like shit. I think maybe I'll post to pastebin and come back later on this.
t=+108 I'm pretty much 'down' off of this stim at this point. **Average Resting Heart Rate at t=+108 is 82bpm,
t=+120 Damn I timed that well, just wrote the last Statistics list and listened to Galantis and had my EARS CUM. So check on music enhancement.
t=+121 Headed to bed now, going to tidy up and set my alarms for tomorrow, congratulations to anyone who read this all the way through. I do truely hope this is of benefit to the research community.

Putting this towards the bottom cause I'll forget but anyone can feel free to add this to erowid if I don't personally get around to it. I'm male, mid twenties, obviously bored, and fairly experienced with cathinones. As far as other substances that have been ingested today: I'm currently on a low daily dose of BZDs (~2mg Diclazepam per day, although it's not all Diclaz, just equivalent to) and have recently been taking a lot of O-DSMT (sometimes over 200mg/day but usually just 100 in the morning as a kick start to my painful life).
