On occasion I take ketamine in my bathtub. I turn off the lights and choose a time when all the sounds in and around my house are nullified and absent — midnight. Then I insufflate 150mg of ketamine and immerse myself in the lukewarm water that I prepped beforehand, and lay in darkness, exploring internal realities in a very comfortable environment.
This time it didn't work out so well. My girlfriend awoke from her slumber and couldn't find me. She was searching outside, calling my name from our back patio. At this point I am about 20 minutes into the experience, and the effects are still very much imminent.
In my simulated reality, I was floating and soaring several hundred feet above my residence, watching my neighborhood below, with my bathtub being my aircraft or magic carpet. As soon as I heard my girlfriend, I impulsively decided to step out of my bathtub.
My shower curtain looked identical to a fluttering flag, and it immediately started to curl around my body, almost strangling me in its grip. I then began the journey to the bathroom door, roughly 8 feet away, but in my altered state it felt like navigating an infinite maze. Every step displaced my sense of direction completely.
I eventually made it to the door frame and called out to my girlfriend but what came out of my mouth was completely incomprehensible. It took me what felt like an eternity but was probably 5 minutes to navigate a 13-foot bathroom.
Lesson learned: if you're going to do ketamine in water, make sure someone knows where you are, and do NOT try to get up and walk around mid-experience.
