I took 48 Benadryl tablets at 6:10 in the morning and drove to work at a rubber disposal plant. By 8:10 my perception had slowed dramatically and speaking became difficult. My coworker started asking if I had gone dead because I was not responding to anything he said.
By 8:45 I was hearing spark noises, chainsaws, and heavy machinery that did not exist. When asked to operate a forklift I mumbled no and said I would sort tires instead. I got strange looks but nobody pressed the issue.
Around 9:20 streaks of black appeared in my peripheral vision. Everything became hyper-saturated and blurry and I lost fine motor control in my fingers. By 9:30 extreme lethargy had set in and the tires looked like they were twitching on their own. The birds outside had gone completely silent.
At 10 AM voices started shouting unintelligible words. By noon I could not reliably distinguish reality from hallucination. Shadow people were running across my field of vision and vanishing. I saw them darting between tire stacks and behind equipment.
At lunch I sat and stared at nothing, unable to eat. By 1 PM my eyes burned intensely and my mouth was so dry I started dry heaving. At 2 PM I could barely stand. Coworkers definitely noticed but assumed I was sick since I had never come to work impaired before.
Around 3 PM some clarity returned. The hallucinations faded and the shadow figures receded. But I still had zero motor control, was stumbling, and saw visual streaks. I took the bus home and spent four hours sitting on my couch staring at the wall.
I narrowly avoided losing my job and operating dangerous industrial equipment in a delirious state. This was extraordinarily reckless and I am fortunate nobody was hurt.
