I have been using phenylpiracetam for a while now, maximum two times a week with doses ranging from 100 to 250mg. I always pair it with alpha-GPC as my choline source.
The initial effects are genuinely impressive. I get noticeable focus enhancement, improved alertness and wakefulness, and even some brighter visual effects. It felt like one of the best nootropics I had ever tried.
But I started noticing a troubling pattern. A few hours after the peak effects, severe depressive symptoms would creep in. Not just a mild comedown, but a genuine deepening of my existing depression. The headaches became an issue too, but only when I went above 220mg and combined it with coffee.
I found it really confusing because everything I read about phenylpiracetam suggested it should improve depression, and most anecdotal reports say the same thing. I started wondering if it might be related to the NMDA receptor effects.
It puts me in a difficult position because it genuinely helps my cognitive function during the active phase, but the depressive rebound makes it hard to justify continued use. I have been trying to figure out if there is a dose sweet spot where I get the cognitive benefits without the mood crash, but so far anything above 100mg seems to trigger it.
