Background: I first learned about coleus blumei near the end of my senior year, while looking for various legal and easily accessible highs. It wasnt until a few weeks into college that I decided to actually try it. I am by no means an amateur when it comes to psychoactive, having experimented with MDMA, amphetamines, LSA, DXM, 2C-E, psilocybin mushrooms, yopo, Salvia Divinorum, Marijuana, countless pharmaceuticals, and many more. I was in the middle of a dry spell, without access to weed or anything else.
I purchased a Rustic Orange Coleus Blumei from the Lowes in town for around $5.00. I arrived back at my dorm and proceeded to pick 15 of the largest healthiest looking leaves from the plant. After washing, drying, and removing the stems, I rolled them into two separate quids. It should be noted that I had eaten roughly 4 hours prior to ingestion.
Mindset: I had finished all my homework and cleaned up the dorm the day before, so I was calm and in a good mindset.
Setting: My college dorm. This trip report is written as it happened in real time.
T+0:00- I begin chewing the quids. The taste is not as bad as people make it out to be. It tastes similar to celery, with a mild bitter after taste.
T+0:05- I finish chewing the quids and wash it down with some Dr. Pepper.
T+0:20- I start to feel a little spacy, but I quickly dismiss this as simply being placebo.
T+0:40- The spacy feeling is slowly getting stronger, I am now confident that this isnt placebo. The feeling is similar to the mellow body high of a low dose of cannabis, while the mental aspect is reminiscent of dxm. Not trippy, but a kind of simultaneous mental fog and mental clarity. Its hard to explain.
T+0:50- I start to pace around my dorm. I notice a kind of pleasant subtle relaxation creeping over me. Not euphoric, but a mild mood uplift.
T+0:55- I decided to put my headphones in and listen to some music. I play a playlist I made that is composed of slow, mellow, and kind of depressing songs. Music seems to be somewhat mildly enhanced, but this might just be placebo.
T+1:00- I become perfectly content just listening to music and staring off into space. No nausea or visual effects noted yet. I contemplate re-dosing.
T+1:10- I decide to re-dose and prepare 8 more leaves in the same manner as I did earlier. I chew them and wash them down with a bottle of water.
T+1:15- My mind starts becoming hazier. Im now positive that this plant is psychoactive. Typing is a bit more difficult.
T+1:20- I am definitely becoming intoxicated. I have very mild visuals that can be best described as twitches in my peripherals. I develop a kind of child-like sense of wonder with my environment, similar to the effects I get from certain psychedelics. I am becoming absorbed into the music pouring from my earbuds.
T+1:30- I develop a head fog and moderate sedation, like I get from a shot or two of vodka. I decide to get out my electronic cigarette and see what happens from there.
T+1:35- The vapor from my e-cig is calming to watch. I get pleasant tingling and goosebumps while listening to Johnny Cashs Hurt. Its becoming more difficult to type, and Im moving unusual slow. Im tempted to drink the little bit of alcohol I have left, but refrain for the sake of this report. I decide to try playing guitar.
T+1:40- I decide against playing guitar, because its out of tune and I dont have the motivation to tune it. I decide to turn on Pandora, eat some grapes, and take a rest from typing.
T+2:00- Im coming down steadily now. Things are becoming clearer and I can focus now.
T+3:00- I am pretty much sober now. All in all, I enjoyed this experience, it wasnt overwhelming at all. It was like the head high from a low dose salvia trip, but without the visual aspects. I plan to try this again soon, but with a higher dosage.
