I was talking in my discord server one day when I asked a specific user about any common psychoactive plants that occur in the Mississippi Delta region, to which I was then informed about the Madagascan Periwinkle, or C. roseus. He then sent me a picture of the plant, and to my surprise, I had hundreds of them growing in my front and side yard flowerbed.
He informed me that there is vinca alkaloids present and that they are (supposedly) better absorbed orally than when smoked. I was eager to see what will happen when I eat them. He said to pick 3 normal sized leaves (which I did) from the variant that is reddish purple with a white dot in the middle on the flower. I then went outside and picked 3 medium sized leaves, chewed them thoroughly, and swallowed. I have taken my prescription 10mg dextroamphetamine IR 2 hours before and was chewing a 4mg piece of nicotine gum (basically 0 nicotine tolerance so it hit hard).
Within 30 minutes I felt a very strange intense focus come over me, and my vision had a noticeable vignette effect to it. I could definitely tell that this was not from either the nicotine or the dextroamphetamine, because this effect felt remarkably different. I noticed I felt somewhat hot and my eyes were opened wider than normal, akin to DXM. Despite these effects, I definitely felt that they were not seretonergic. I felt very very awake and alert, but not stimulated. The level of focus I had was so strong that it was somewhat uncomfortable, and for some reason it drove me to research trazodone for almost 3 hours straight because I just got access to a handful of 50mg pills. It felt like so much pure raw focus and alertness without any real body high (besides feeling kind of hot and a little dry and wide eyed) or without any physical energy or motivation one would expect from classical stimulants.
I feel like this can be beneficial to maybe eat 0.5 or 1 leaf in addition to a stimulant to help with add and focus. I might experiment mixing them with a higher dose of amphetamine and a lower dose of C. roseus to see what happens. This plant is definitely psychoactive, but It is very strange, and I am not sure what to really do with the literal thousands of them I have growing.
