Mellow First Time
Whenever I am in the process of looking for jobs, I will quit my casual smoking of marijuana and look into other natural herbal remedies. This gives me ease of mind knowing that I will be clean if I ever have to perform a drug test related to the hiring process.
My experience is mainly rooted in ground Kratom leaf and I'll partake about once a week or less. I just don't really care for the sluggish 'off' feeling I get following the experience with opioid receptor related herbs. I have tried morning glory seeds, St. John's Wort, and Valerian with minor effects. So as curiosity grabs hold of me, I did my research and decided to try Kava for its known mild sedative and mood lifting properties.
I bought an extract from a local produce market that had 33.5mg of kavalactones per 30 drops. I mixed 1 eye dropper full which was a little over 30 drops into a short glass of water. I downed the kava cocktail on an empty stomach to fully potentiate the effects. My mouth got a slightly numbing feeling and I felt the effects begin to rise about 15 minutes after ingestion.
Rise (first 30 minutes):
Slight alcohol buzz feeling without the calming effect. Feel heavier, kind of silly, slight dissociation from thoughts, but it felt like I did 2 shots of caffeine because my heart rate went up. I am not a fan of caffeine or being jittery so I started to get a little bit of anxiety at this point. Decided to out on some music to calm me down.
Peak (about 1 hour in):
Music really shifted my mood. I put on a Mushroom Jazz 3 mixtape and found myself just wandering around my apartment nodding my head to music. Just kind of floating around, not thinking about anything and listening to the beat. This was the most enjoyable part of the experience. My mood was lifted, felt a good body and mental buzz similar to about 2 strong drinks at a bar. I wouldn't say it increased my social lubrication, I actually found it rather hard to concentrate even to text someone. Limbs felt heavy, so the couch is where I needed to be. Would not drive with kava, I feel too heavy.
Down (about 3 hours in):
Mentally, I am awake and not ready for a nap, but my eyes feel heavy and dry. My motivation to be active is at a stand still, feel heavy but not buzzed. I sit down to write this experience report and decide the effects are over. Slight dehydrated feeling no matter how much water I drink but no headache or anxiety or anything. Just back to normal, maybe a little lazy feeling.
All-in-all this was indeed a pleasant experience for an over the counter product. I can assure you that it is not placebo effect, it felt like the kind of buzz I would get from a short happy hour of drinks after work (but sadly less social lubricant). Music enhanced the feeling, I have never danced around my apartment alone other than this moment, so that says a lot! I heard one's body adjusts more favorably to the effects as one continues to use it, so I will see where it takes me from here.
