Dosage: 100-200mg
Preface: I am currently a first year female student. Last year, I was diagnosed with mild ADHD and given vyvanse. However, after using them for two days, I knew I did not enjoy the effects. Recently, I have realized that I may need extra help with the university workload. After using both Vyvanse and Adderall to study, I realized they were too strong for what I needed. I felt robotic, and the come downs were hectic. Recently, I was advised Modafinil from a friend in the community, and I am currently prescribed. This report is for anyone wondering about using modafinil as an alternative to ADHD.
Physical: The body load is much less than with amphetamines. I don't feel as stiff, but rather the opposite. So far, a negative effect has been disturbed sleep, but nothing I can't manage by taking it early in the morning. I also notice reduced appetite, though less severe than with Adderall.
Mental: This is where modafinil really shines for me. I don't feel robotic or hyperfocused to the point of tunnel vision like I did on amphetamines. Instead, it feels like a gentle push to stay on task. I can still switch between tasks, have normal conversations, and feel like myself. The motivation to start work is the biggest improvement - on modafinil, that initial resistance to sitting down and beginning a task just melts away.
Compared to Amphetamines: The come-up is smoother and the comedown is basically nonexistent. I don't get the jaw clenching, the emotional flatness, or the crash. The trade-off is that it's less powerful overall. If you need intense laser focus for a specific task, amphetamines deliver that better. But for getting through a normal study day without feeling wired or burnt out, modafinil wins.
Overall: I would rate modafinil as the better option for mild ADHD. It gives you just enough of a push without the harsh side effects of traditional stimulants. I take 100mg most days and only go up to 200mg for particularly heavy study sessions.
