I started Fadogia agrestis specifically to address SSRI-induced sexual dysfunction. I have been on sertraline (Zoloft) 100mg for generalized anxiety disorder for two years, and while it has been transformative for my mental health, it absolutely destroyed my libido and made orgasm extremely difficult to achieve. My psychiatrist suggested we try adding bupropion, but I wanted to try a supplement approach first.
I chose Fadogia agrestis at 500mg daily based on community reports suggesting it could help with libido independent of the mechanism causing the suppression.
Weeks 1-3: No change. Still had the SSRI sexual flatness.
Weeks 4-6: Something shifted. My libido did not return to pre-SSRI levels, but it improved from "completely absent" to "present but muted." I was interested in sex again, even if the desire was not as strong as it was before sertraline. Orgasm remained difficult but was achievable more consistently.
Weeks 7-8: The improvement plateaued. Libido was maybe at 40-50% of my pre-SSRI baseline. Better than 10%, which is where it was without the supplement, but not a full restoration.
I discussed this with my psychiatrist, who was cautiously supportive but reminded me that there are no studies on Fadogia agrestis interactions with SSRIs and that I was essentially running an uncontrolled experiment. She ordered liver function tests, which came back normal.
After completing the 8-week cycle, I added bupropion 150mg as originally suggested. The combination of bupropion plus resumed Fadogia brought my libido to approximately 70-75% of pre-SSRI levels, which I consider a meaningful quality-of-life improvement.
Caveat: I have no way to know whether the Fadogia agrestis is contributing anything beyond what the bupropion would achieve on its own. This is the fundamental problem with stacking interventions without controlled conditions.
