First time Exacting from plant

Hey guys, I recently bought a San Pedro cactus and tried to make an extract with about 40cm of stem recently.

I de-spined, peeled and cut and then boiled with equal parts water to cactus for about 6 hours. I then strained and drank the liquid. I followed the method I found online that said it was the easiest but the only effects I felt were the initial glow I've felt when taking other psychadelics. About 2 hours after this I tried eating the cactus I had strained in hopes maybe the mescaline hadn't been extracted properly but the same thing happened.

I've had a look on this sub since and a lot of the processes I've read are WAY beyond my chemistry knowledge, so I was just wondering if there's an easier way to extract for a beginner or even just an easily explainable method for someone who's never properly done it before?
