Quick context: I have experience with psychedelics, namely LSD and salvia. I stick to pretty safe/responsible dosing and scheduling with MDMA -- one to three month breaks, 150mg or less in each session etc. I also enjoy weed, but only partake in it occasionally -- maybe once every month or so, if that.
On Friday night my girlfriend and I decided to do a home roll together with 100mg crystal MDMA and a 50mg redose. We had a pretty chill roll and generally just kicked it giving each other back rubs, dancing to music, diffusing oils and shooting the shit.
In the past we've both smoked a bit on the comedown of a roll with friends, and have always enjoyed the gentle psychedelic headspace + mild visuals.
However, last night we decided to go a little further. A friend of ours brought us over a care package filled with gum, candy and... a joint and half of a very potent cookie.
Long story short, only about an hour after our redose we decide we want the night to get weirder and smoke the joint. Keep in mind she smokes weed even less than I do and also keeps to the same MDMA schedule. We give it about 30 minutes and realize we're back in that fun little limbo space of being high and rolling.
I told her I've read online that some people, with enough weed on the comedown, can enter into a pretty intense trip. So we decide to split the cookie.
Needless to say another 30 minutes later and we are both having visuals that's comparable to two tabs of LSD. My closed eye visuals were absolutely stunning -- infinite cubic 3D grids that morphed into cosmic and sci-fi-esque gates, constantly opening and collapsing in on themselves. Every color on the grid was represented as fractal patterns morphed into outlines of organic creatures that I couldn't possibly describe now. Our walls, which have very rough drywall texturing, turned into infinitely complex mazes. If I focused hard enough, any 3D surface I looked at turned into liquid. By simply pointing my finger at a point I could cause a ripple effect that articulated across the rest of the room and within my field of vision.
At one point I hallucinated that our entire living room turned into a Wild West era saloon with a dirt floor. The patio doors turned into those old school western style double swinging doors.
Our ceiling, which is that shitty old school popcorn tecture, was where I had the most fun. I saw pine trees grow and coalesce into varying topographic representations of beautiful landscapes -- from old school looking maps to hyper-realistic forests where I was able to glide over them and manipulate my point of view from either bird's eye to ground level. Kaleidoscope-like morphings of faces and cartoon characters that would start to form heiroglyphic style patterns, too.
Eventually I got into a somewhat familiar acid-like headspace where I tried to ascertain what the visuals were trying to tell me. I felt my ego getting tugged on as my short-term memory was completely obliterated and my sense of identity got a bit fuzzy. While similar to acid, it was still distinctly different. Reality felt more "real" than an acid trip, but my sense of self felt more abstract, if that makes sense. It was extremely dream-like and floaty with a body high that, at times, made me feel like I had disintegrated.
I will say, however, that the overall headspace was significantly more "gentle" than acid, despite the visuals being on par with a fairly strong dose. I assume that is because the MDMA was still in the background the whole time. Never once did either of us feel anxious or overwhelmed. The description of "playground" that I've heard used multiple times within psychonaut spheres makes perfect sense for the whole experience.
Hands down the most fun I've had during a "trip." I have friends that roll occasionally, but are pretty frequent cannabis users and seem incapable of having an experience even remotely close to what we had. For anyone that is in a similar boat, I highly recommend trying it. I will say that some degree of psychedelic experience is probably preferable.
