I am a natural bodybuilder who competes in tested federations. I have used Fadogia agrestis across three separate competition preps as part of my supplementation protocol to maintain testosterone levels during aggressive caloric deficits, when natural testosterone production typically drops.
Context matters here: during a bodybuilding prep, you are eating at a substantial caloric deficit, doing excessive cardio, sleeping poorly from hunger, and your testosterone predictably crashes. Anything that can attenuate that crash is valuable.
Prep 1 (no Fadogia): Total T dropped from 580 to 340 ng/dL by show day. Felt terrible. Libido was nonexistent. Recovery was awful.
Prep 2 (with 600mg Fadogia + 400mg Tongkat Ali): Total T at comparable point in the diet was 420 ng/dL. Still suppressed from baseline but substantially less crashed than prep 1. Libido was low but present. Recovery was manageable.
Prep 3 (with 300mg Fadogia + 400mg Tongkat Ali): Total T was 395 ng/dL at the comparable point. Very similar to prep 2, suggesting the lower Fadogia dose was nearly as effective as the higher one.
Now, I need to be honest about the limitations of this comparison. Each prep was slightly different — different duration, different starting body composition, different stress levels, different sleep quality. Preps 2 and 3 were also later in my competitive career, so I had better dieting strategies overall. Attributing the hormonal differences specifically to Fadogia agrestis is a stretch.
What I can say is that my subjective experience during the supplement-assisted preps was notably better. Less brain fog, less emotional flatness, less of the soul-crushing libido death that usually accompanies late-stage prep. Whether Fadogia deserves credit or whether it is the Tongkat Ali or simply better prep execution, I cannot definitively say.
I continue to use it during preps because the downside risk, managed with blood work monitoring and conservative dosing, seems acceptable relative to the potential upside. I would not use it year-round.
