Pramiracetam is a potent racetam nootropic developed in 1984 by Parke-Davis as a more lipophilic and bioavailable derivative of piracetam. It is estimated to be 5-30 times more potent than piracetam on a per-milligram basis. Pramiracetam is distinguished by its strong effects on high-affinity choline uptake (HACU) in the hippocampus, which enhances acetylcholine synthesis and is thought to underlie its memory-enhancing effects. Clinical research has shown benefits in memory impairment following brain injuries, and it is prescribed in several European countries for cognitive disorders. Among racetam users, pramiracetam is prized for its clean, focused cognitive enhancement without emotional coloring.
