The soul bomb is the combination of LSD and psilocybin mushrooms — stacking two classical psychedelics without an empathogen. It is less commonly discussed than the flip combinations but has a dedicated following among experienced psychonauts. The combination merges LSD's electric, analytical, outward-facing character with mushrooms' organic, emotional, introspective nature. Users describe it as experiencing both psychedelic "flavors" simultaneously — the geometric precision of LSD interlaced with the flowing, breathing organic quality of mushrooms. It produces a very deep psychedelic experience without the serotonin dump of MDMA, making it sustainable to use more frequently (though tolerance still requires spacing).
Two psychedelic personalities talking to each other through your consciousness. LSD's electric geometry and mushrooms' organic flow don't compete — they weave together into something that feels like seeing reality from two angles at once. The visuals are richer than either alone: crystal-sharp geometric patterns that simultaneously breathe and grow like living things. Emotionally, you oscillate between LSD's cosmic "zoom out" perspective and mushrooms' intimate "zoom in" emotional depth, sometimes experiencing both in the same moment. The body feels electric and grounded simultaneously, which some find harmonious and others find confusing. Without MDMA's emotional safety net, the experience is rawer and more challenging — but many psychonauts consider that rawness to be the point.
LSD and psilocin (the active metabolite of psilocybin) are both partial agonists at the 5-HT2A receptor, but they bind differently. LSD has very high binding affinity and an unusually slow dissociation rate — it essentially gets "stuck" in the receptor, which contributes to its long duration. Psilocin has lower affinity and faster dissociation kinetics but activates the receptor through a slightly different conformational change (biased agonism). When both are present, they create a richer 5-HT2A activation profile than either alone, driving the unique visual complexity. Both substances also affect 5-HT2C, 5-HT1A, and downstream glutamate signaling, but through different receptor interaction profiles. The absence of MDMA means no massive serotonin dump, resulting in a more purely psychedelic experience with less empathogenic warmth.
The soul bomb produces a psychedelic experience of unusual depth and complexity. LSD contributes sharp geometric visuals, enhanced color saturation, analytical thinking, and a sense of electric energy. Mushrooms add organic visual flow, emotional depth, connection to nature, and a grounded body high. Together, the visuals become extraordinarily rich — geometric patterns that breathe and morph organically, as if the structured and natural worlds are merging.
The cognitive effects are intense. LSD's tendency toward analytical, outward-facing thought combines with mushrooms' introspective, emotionally deep character. Users report oscillating between cosmic analysis and deeply personal emotional processing, sometimes within the same minute.
The body high blends LSD's electric energy with mushrooms' earthy groundedness. Some find this complementary; others find the competing body sensations confusing.
Ego dissolution is likely at moderate-plus doses. Two classical psychedelics acting on 5-HT2A receptors simultaneously can produce very deep dissolution of self-identity.
| Substance | Solo Dose | Combo Dose | Route |
|---|---|---|---|
| LSD | 100–200 µg | 50–75 µg | Oral |
| Psilocybin Mushrooms | 2.5–4.0 g | 1.0–2.0 g | Oral |
Reduce both doses. Two psychedelics synergize significantly.
LSD: 50–75 µg (half a normal dose).
Psilocybin mushrooms: 1–2 g dried (half to two-thirds of a normal dose).
Timing: Take them simultaneously or mushrooms 30 minutes after LSD. Since LSD has a longer onset, this helps synchronize the peaks.
Duration will match LSD's timeline (8–12 hours) since LSD is the longer-acting substance. The mushroom component will be most prominent in the first 4–6 hours.
T+0:00 — Take LSD (50–75 µg) and mushrooms (1–2 g), simultaneously or mushrooms 30 min later.
T+0:30–1:30 — Come-up of both substances. Can be intense.
T+1:30–3:00 — Combined peak. Both substances fully active. Rich, complex visuals and deep cognitive effects.
T+3:00–5:00 — Mushroom component begins fading. LSD fully active. Shift toward more LSD-character experience.
T+5:00–8:00 — Primarily LSD effects with residual mushroom influence.
T+8:00–12:00 — LSD comedown.
T+12:00+ — Baseline.
The soul bomb is a deep psychedelic experience and should be treated with the same respect as a high-dose solo trip. Nature is the ideal setting — the combination of LSD's visual enhancement with mushrooms' organic connection to the natural world makes forests, mountains, and bodies of water extraordinarily beautiful. Safe outdoor spaces (private land, secluded trails, a trusted friend's garden) work best. For indoor settings, treat it like a ceremony: comfortable space, soft lighting, meaningful art on the walls. Best music: ambient (Brian Eno, Biosphere), classical (Debussy, Satie), psychedelic rock (Pink Floyd, Grateful Dead), or extended nature recordings. Have a trip sitter — without MDMA's emotional buffer, challenging experiences are more likely.
No MDMA means lower serotonin risk but does not mean zero risk. Avoid SSRIs and MAOIs.
Set and setting are critical. Without MDMA's euphoric buffer, challenging experiences are more likely. A safe, comfortable environment is essential.
A trip sitter is strongly recommended , especially for first attempts.
Cross-tolerance is relevant. Both substances act on 5-HT2A receptors. If you've used either in the past two weeks, effects will be diminished.
Nausea can be significant from the mushroom component. Ginger tea helps.
Plan for a long experience. The LSD component means 8–12 hours. Clear your schedule.
“Soul bomb is my fav combo ever! It was really euphoric from start to finish. The LSD gives this electric clarity while the mushrooms add this ancient, organic depth. Together it's like the universe explaining itself to you.”
“The visuals were just absolutely incredible. It can get to DMT-level intensity if they both kick in together. I saw geometry that doesn't exist in three dimensions.”
“Take the acid first, then shrooms 60–90 minutes later so the peaks line up. If you take them at the same time they kinda fight each other. Stagger it and it's transcendent.”
“Half tab + 1.5g mushrooms. That's the sweet spot. Don't be a hero with the doses. The synergy does the heavy lifting.”
