MDMA's euphoria involves massive serotonin and dopamine co-release, with oxytocin providing the warmth and intimacy components. The more intense and rapid-onset the euphoria, the more addictive the substance tends to be. Users should be aware that the intensity of initial euphoric experiences is rarely reproducible—tolerance develops rapidly for most substance classes—and that the pursuit of this effect is the primary pathway into substance use disorders.
