Serotonergic psychedelics such as LSD and psilocybin achieve this through 5-HT2A receptor agonism, which modulates thalamocortical gating and disrupts the normal filtering and processing of auditory signals. Dissociatives such as ketamine act through NMDA receptor antagonism, interfering with the glutamatergic signaling essential for accurate temporal and spectral processing of sound. Substance Classes
